As the next in-line to fill the hereditary Chief seat for the house of Tlakishpiilth, Tyson’s cultural education began at birth. He has been raised by his family, father Shawn A-in-chut Atleo and grandfather E. Richard Umeek Atleo, to respect Nuu-chah-nulth cultural values. He is an intelligent young professional passionate about finding balance between community well-being, cultural integrity, and the health of the natural environment. Currently a student at Royal Roads University, Tyson has been employed as an Aboriginal engagement advisor to the Government of Canada for the last 7 years, winning numerous public service awards for his work. Additionally, he serves as a member of Ahousaht’s elected chief and council, is a successful entrepreneur, and a regular volunteer as a director of both the Walk the Wildside Trail and the Gathering Voices Society. In his various roles, he maintains strong connections with many accomplished cultural, political and business leaders.
